Novel α‑Conotoxin TxID from Conus textile

The α3β4 nAChR may be key targets of drugs to treat difficult miscellaneous diseases, such as addiction, chronic pain, obesity, cervical cancer and lung carcinoma etc.

The α-conotoxin TxID has been fully folded and tested its activity on α3β4 nicotinic acetylcholine receptors (nAChR) in our lab, which has activity on α3β4 nAChR.

Selective α3β4 nAChR antagonists (TxID etc) can reduce nicotine self-administration in rats, demonstrating the role of the α3β4 nAChR in nicotine dependence and drug-seeking behavior.

Hypothalamic α3β4 nAChR subtype was critical for food intake and body weight in mice, which could be important to modulate appetite and control obesity (Mineur et al., Science 2011, 332, 1330-1332).
