DIHYDROETHIDIUM (ALSO CALLED HYDROETHIDI
Descrition & Target
Dihydroethidium (also called hydroethidium) is the chemically reduced form of the commonly used DNA dye ethidium bromide. The probe is useful to detect oxidative activities in viable cells, including respiratory burst in phagocytes. Dihydroethidium itself has blue fluorescence (λ Ex/λ Em: 355/420nm) in cells, while the oxidized form ethidium has red fluorescence (λ Ex/λ Em: 518/605 nm) upon DNA intercalation.<ul><li>Off-white to light brown solid soluble in DMF or DMSO</li><li>Store at -20°C under nitrogen or argon, and protect from light, especially when in solution</li><li>C21H21N3</li><li>MW: 315</li><li>[38483-26-0]</li></ul>

DIHYDRORhodamine 123
Descrition & Target
Dihydrorhodamine 123 is the reduced form of rhodamine 123, which is a commonly used fluorescent mitochondrial dye. Dihydrorhodamine 123 itself is non-fluorescent, but it readily enters cells and is oxidized by oxidative species or by cellular redox systems to the fluorescent rhodamine 123 that accumulates in mitochondrial membranes. Dihydrorhodamine 123 is useful for detecting reactive oxygen species including superoxide (in the presence of peroxidase or cytochrome c) and peroxynitrite. Also see dihydrorhodamine 123 dihydrochloride, a more stable and water soluble form of dihydrorhodamine 123.<ul> <li>White solid soluble in DMSO</li> <li>Store at -20°C and protect from air and light, especially when in solution</li> <li>C20H18N2O3</li> <li>MW: 346</li> <li>[109244-58-8]</li></ul>

DII (DIIC18(3))
Descrition & Target
DiIC18(3); 1,1'-dioctadecyl-3,3,3',3'-tetramethylindocarbocyanine
DiI is a widely used carbocyanine membrane dye that labels cell membranes by inserting its two long (C18 carbon) hydrocarbon chains into the lipid bilayer. Particularly, it has been extensively used for the anterograde and retrograde labeling of neurons. The intense fluorescence and high photostability of the dye make it possible to visualize the fine structures (axons and dendrites) of the neurons. Due to its low toxicity and the tendency to give highly stable cell labeling, the dye has also been generally used for long term cell tracing of cells both in cultures and in living embryos or animals. Please also see our ready-to-use CellBrite™ Cell Membrane Labeling Solutions.

DIO (DIOC18(3))
Descrition & Target
DiO is a carbocyanine membrane dye that has applications similar to those of DiI. However, DiO has green fluorescent emission and the lateral diffusion rate on the membranes is generally slower than that of DiI. DiO and DiI are often used together in dual color studies. Also see Neuro-DiO, which has better solubility in membranes and does not form non-fluorescent aggregates that can slow dye diffusion.

DMAO, 2mM in DMSO
Descrition & Target
DMAO is a membrane-permeable DNA dye, excellent for staining live bacteria. DMAO preferentially binds to dsDNA with green fluorescence (Ex/Em (DNA bound) = 503/530 nm). Unlike the SYBR dyes, DMAO is extremely stable and can be routinely handled and stored at room temperature without degradation. Supplied at 2 mM in DMSO.
